Ash felt a deep connection to the ocean and, by Adulthood, joined the crew of <em>The Storm’s Eye</em>, a legendary merchant ship, leaving his village for life at sea.</p> <p>One night, a violent storm threatened the ship, and Fergal and Ashani called upon <a class="internal-link" href="Valkur , Hero God">Valkur</a>, the god of sailors, for aid. Lightning surged through their joined hands, calming the storm and saving the crew. Taking this as a sign, Fergal pledged himself to <a class="internal-link" href="Valkur , Hero God">Valkur</a>, becoming a Tempest Cleric devoted to protecting his shipmates.</p> <p>Years later, an unspeakable horror rose from the depths, an eldritch creature shrouded in darkness, with writhing tendrils and eyes that gleamed with unnatural light. Its form seemed to shift and contort, barely comprehensible, and its presence filled the crew with a primal terror. In the chaos, Fergal saved Ashani, but as he struck the creature, it ensnared him, turning his body to stone as it dragged him into the depths.</p> <p>At last, a voice pierced his isolation not <a class="internal-link" href="Valkur , Hero God">Valkur</a>’s, but <a class="internal-link" href="Umberlee, the Queen of the Sea">Umberlee, the Queen of the Sea</a>. She offered him freedom if he swore loyalty to her instead.
