This variant makes use of the Spell Points optional rules on page 288 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide. With these rules sorcerers gain greater flexibility casting the limited spells that they know.
Simply combine the Spell Points from the Spell Points by Level chart with the Sorcery Points from the Sorcerer Table. Since Sorcery Points can be converted to spell slots at the same rate as spell points, they have the same value. This new pool is called Sorcery Points. These points can be spent on spells, Metamagic and bloodline abilities. You still reference the Sorcerer Table for spells known and what level spells you can cast
| Sorcerer Lvl | Sorcery Points | Max. Spell Lvl Known |
| ------------ | -------------- | -------------------- |
| 1st | 4 | 1st |
| 2nd | 8 | 1st |

| Spell Lvl | Point Cost |
| --------- | ---------- |
| 1 | 2 |

| 4 | 6 |
| 5 | 7 |
| 6 | 9 |
| 7 | 10 |
| 8 | 11 |
| 9 | 13 |
Spells of 6th level and higher are particularly taxing to cast. You can only cast one spell of each level 6th level or higher. You can’t cast another of those levels until you finish a long rest.

### Overchannel
Another way to change the feel of sorcerers is the ability to Overchannel. While you are still limited on the number of spells you know, you can power them beyond what is typical from a caster of your level. As long as you have enough sorcery points, you can power your known spells to be cast at a higher level than what you would have "spell slots" for in the system in the PHB.
Example:
A 5th level sorcerer has 32 total sorcery points. If he wanted to "go nova" with fireballs, he could cast a 9th level fireball, an 8th level fireball, and a 5th level fireball. That would leave just 1 sorcery point to power Metamagic or power bloodline abilities.
