The Dreadknight is a mysterious figure best known as the greatest enemy of Sir Eylo and the individual responsible for bringing his former life as an adventurer to an end. Despite the significance of their confrontation, remarkably little reliable information concerning the Dreadknight has survived. Sir Eylo claims that the two were enemies for some time before their final encounter. The exact nature of their conflict, and what originally brought them into opposition, remains unknown. What is known is that their rivalry eventually culminated in a confrontation in which Eylo was defeated. The Dreadknight did not kill him. Instead, Eylo was transformed and imprisoned within the body of a small teddy bear. The transformation stripped him of much of his former strength and left him unable to simply resume the life he had lived before. The consequences of the encounter extended considerably further than Eylo's physical transformation. Following his defeat, memories of Sir Eylo began to disappear. Those who had once known him no longer remembered his name. Accounts of his adventures ceased to be associated with him, while stories and accomplishments that Eylo insists were once widely known could no longer be reliably attributed to their supposed hero. Eylo himself appears unaffected by this loss of memory. He continues to remember his former life, his adventures, and his confrontation with the Dreadknight. To everyone else, however, his claims are difficult to verify. Whatever caused the disappearance of these memories appears to have affected far more than those who personally knew him. Whether the transformation and the loss of Eylo's legacy were separate effects or parts of the same curse remains uncertain. ## Identity The true identity of the Dreadknight is unknown. The name appears to be a title rather than a confirmed personal name, and little is known regarding the individual beneath it. His origins, abilities, allegiances, and reasons for opposing Sir Eylo have yet to be established. Likewise, it is unclear whether the Dreadknight acted entirely according to his own interests or whether greater forces were involved in his conflict with Eylo. ## Current Whereabouts What became of the Dreadknight following Sir Eylo's defeat is unknown. No reliable account confirms his death, imprisonment, or disappearance, and Sir Eylo's inability to prove much of his own history has made attempts to investigate his former enemy particularly difficult. If records of the Dreadknight once existed alongside accounts of Eylo's adventures, they may have been affected by the same phenomenon that erased Eylo from the memories of the wider world. For Sir Eylo, however, there is no uncertainty regarding the Dreadknight's existence. Whatever the rest of Faerûn may remember, Sir Eylo remembers the enemy who defeated him.
