Among common folk, It is often mistaken for an evil necromancer's weapon. Its construction alone is enough to earn fearful looks and whispered rumours. Veterans and career soldiers, however recognise it for what it was intended to be, a memorial to the dead and a reminder that some wars continue long after they should have ended. The weapon was created following a campaign against an undead infestation on a long-abandoned battlefield. The dead rose beneath the moonlight, attacking patrols and travellers alike. Several military units were dispatched to destroy the undead and secure the area after local temples proved unable to spare the resources needed to deal with the threat. Once the battlefield had been reclaimed, the company chaplain ordered the fallen gathered and given proper funeral rites. During the process, the company smith uncovered the remains of an ancient commander whose soldiers had continued fighting long after death. Before the pyres were lit, the smith recovered the commander's skull and spine from the remains. The skull was hollowed, reinforced with steel, fashioned into the head of the flail and the vertebrae became the chain, while silver plating was applied to every exposed surface. The completed weapon was never intended as a trophy or a celebration of victory, instead it was created as a warning. The company adopted a simple belief during the campaign: no matter how loyal a soldier may be, no commander has the right to demand service beyond the grave. Spine of the Fallen remains a symbol of that lesson. # Spine of the Fallen Weapon (flail), uncommon (requires attunement) Damage: 1d8 bludgeoning Magic Bonus: +1 to attack and damage rolls Properties: Silvered Weight: 2 lb. ### Hallowed Remains The Spine of the Fallen counts as a silvered magical weapon. Once per turn, when you hit an undead creature with this weapon, the attack deals an additional 1d4 radiant damage. ### Final Command When you hit an undead creature with this weapon, you can force it to make a DC 13 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature is incapacitated until the start of your next turn, as the weapon temporarily disrupts the magic animating it. Once this property has been used, it cannot be used again until the next dawn. ### Rest for the Fallen When an undead creature is reduced to 0 hit points by this weapon, its remains cannot be animated as undead again for 24 hours. This property does not prevent an undead creature from reforming through an ability that does not animate its remains.
